How the generator works

A Secret Santa generator shuffles the names and decides who gives to whom. It sounds simple, but a fair draw has to guarantee a few things that slips of paper in a hat can’t.

    Type them one by one or paste the list from your group chat. Duplicates and list numbers are ignored.

    Say who can’t draw whom. Tick “applies both ways” for couples and siblings.

    The result is instant. If the restrictions leave no valid combination, the page tells you what’s wrong.

    Each person taps their name, checks who they got and hides it before passing it on. The list marks who has already looked.

How the draw is made

For each person, the generator lists who they are allowed to draw: everyone except themselves and anyone covered by a restriction. It starts with whoever has the fewest options and tries shuffled combinations until everyone gives and receives exactly once.

If a path gets stuck halfway, it backs up and tries another one. That’s why you never get a half-finished result: either the draw works for everyone, or the page explains why it can’t.

Paper slips, website or app

Paper slips work for a small group in the same room, but someone always pulls their own name and you have to start over.

This generator fixes that and works instantly, without an account. Its limit is secrecy: whoever holds the phone could peek.

In the O Amigo Secreto app, the draw happens on the server and each person sees only their own result. Not even the organizer can see the pairs. You can invite people with a link and everyone builds a wishlist.

How do I draw Secret Santa names online?

Can I draw names without signing up?

Yes. This generator asks for no account, email or phone number. The names stay in your browser. You only need an account in the app, where each person gets their result in secret.

How do I run Secret Santa over WhatsApp or a group chat?

Paste the names from the chat here and run the draw. To send results without anyone peeking, create the group in the app and share the invite link in the chat. Each person joins and sees only who they got.

Does this replace drawing names from a hat?

Yes, without the risk of someone drawing their own name. Results show up as slips: each person taps their name, sees who they got and hides it before passing the phone.

Does the group need an even number of people?

No. With 3, 7 or 15 people the draw works the same way: everyone gives to someone and gets a gift from someone. The minimum here is 3 people.

Can someone draw their own name?

No. The generator never lets anyone draw themselves, so you never have to redo the draw.

What if the draw is impossible?

That happens when there are too many restrictions, for example when two people are only allowed to draw the same third person. The page warns you and shows no result. Remove one or more restrictions and try again.

Can the organizer see who got whom?

Here, whoever holds the phone can look if they want to. To keep it secret from everyone, organizer included, use the app: results go straight to each participant.
